And it will feature dance parties, modelling contests and a drag show starring performers from Priscilla Queen of the Desert – The Musical.

The three-night trip on board a specially chartered vessel, the Athena, which can carry 600 passengers in 220 cabins, has attracted interest from across Australia, Europe and the US, according to cruise organiser Peter Oxford of All Gay Cruises. “This cruise gives gay people who wouldn’t feel comfortable on a regular cruise the opportunity to be themselves with other like-minded passengers,” he said. “Our project marks a positive change for the Australian cruising industry.”

The ship has a pool, fitness centre and sauna, five bars and lounges, a nightclub, show lounge and casino, and Mr Oxford promises a range of on-board entertainment.

“We’ve got a ‘Speedo and jocks’ party, a ‘leather and black’ party, a ‘white’ party and a superheroes party,” he said. “We’ve also got a celebrity coming over from Hollywood, but we’re not revealing who he is just yet.”

The cruise will also feature a special drag show starring Trevor Ashley from the recently concluded Priscilla Queen of the Desert -The Musical.

Prices start at $685 per person for a twin share cabin.
